We’ll want exclusivity if we run this story. You know, host it on our platforms and the like. We don’t see a cent if it gets hosted on Youtube. You’ll have to take down that video you uploaded as well if you want us to run it, thankfully not a lot of people have seen it.

Depending on how the first story goes we could make it a series. You can pitch anything interesting you find and we can run a story on it if we like the idea of it.

This is what I was getting from places that believed me. Wanting exclusivity is an editor’s way of saying the story is gonna blow up. I knew I was sitting on a goldmine, but I had to get the word out to people somehow.
All these websites wanted the story, but they wanted to publish the videos and manage everything from their end. I didn’t blame them, everyone was getting fucked around by the advertising duopoly, pouring money into two giant companies they were dependent for traffic that gave them nothing in return.
The bigger publishers tried to launch their own platforms for video where they could get more for advertising spend and hold people’s attention for longer.
But no one went to a publisher’s website to hang out and watch videos. Top that off with how they littered articles with irrelevant autoplay videos and they just become part of the noise you filter out online.
I also hated video players that weren’t the big ones. They loaded videos slow, in low quality, and they usually played when you were reading an article about something else entirely.
No, I had to find a way to get word out about this door portal on my own terms. I contacted the only people I could think of in a fit of pure desperation; I contacted the mods of the r/interestingasfuck subreddit for an AMA.
