Chronic UTIs

Ladies, we need to talk.

(I TAKE A BIG SNIFF FROM THROUGH THE SCREEN)

I know you have a UTI.

Whoever you are, I want you to know you’re not alone. You’ve probably gone to your doctor, taken the test, and had it come back negative.

The doctor tells you there’s nothing wrong with you, but how can that be? You’re in pain, you can feel something there. It’s not just you, and it’s not your fault.

Did you know the method we use to detect UTIs is over 70 years old? It’s primitive, doesn’t give us the full picture at all, but if that test comes back negative? That’s it, end of story.

Your test came back inconclusive, ‘couldn’t possibly be a UTI,’ your doctor said, and this is a pain you just have to live with.

Probably told to you by a man who has never had a UTI before. And even if he did, not the one you have.

You see, there’s a new type of UTI in town, the chronic UTI. The Infection that keeps coming back to the tract.

Actually, it’s not new, it’s just gone undetected for the longest time.

But why, why you ask, have these chronic UTIs gone undetected for so long?

It’s simple, just think about it; who developed the test for UTIs? Men. And who do most of the testing? Men. But who are most susceptible to UTIs? Women.

And this chronic UTI, it’s right up there, not just in your bladder, it’s in the very cells lining your bladder wall, undetectable in a regular urine sample.

(BIG SNIFF)

On the path to equality, it must be acknowledged we are not all the same.

The path to Equality is not a level playing field with all of us running free, it’s about helping others in the areas they are more vulnerable and using our strengths to boost others so we all have access to the same opportunities.

That’s why I’m all about equal rights UTIs. They’re not handed out evenly, and that’s why I want to make sure that you, and women going through the same thing as you, are given the diagnosis and treatment you need.

It’s not your fault, it’s just anatomy. Your urethra is just so short, you have no vas deferens to act as a buffer.

You could have been wiping, get a bit too overzealous, gone all the way up, it happens.

But it’s unlikely you’ll be given a chronic UTI diagnosis, it’s not even a recognised form of UTI

I want to make sure every woman can get enough antibiotics into their urine to treat even the most stubborn bacteria hiding in the cells of their bladder.

Did you know most women endure the symptoms of chronic UTI for six and a half years before they finally get the treatment they need?

I just want you to get the treatment you need, and…

(BIG SNIFF)

I can tell you’ve suffered enough.
